Lab Tool Kit For Connected Vehicle Automation
Abstract
Simulation of autonomous driving of the connected vehicles and cyber security threat have emerged as the two most focussed areas of research and teaching in the area of autonomy of the connected cars. This Lab kit provides a complete mixed reality solution for simulation of automated driving and its security based on a real automated Toy Car and open source driving simulation software Carla. There is an increasing demand for trained manpower in automated vehicle systems. Due to increased demand in various industrial sectors such as Robotics, Automated Shuttles, Delivery Vehicles, Logistics, Heavy Machinery, Mining and Farming etc.
This tool kit has been designed to train the next generation autonomous engineers. Researchers in this area can also use this platform to simulate their penetration and defence strategy. The toolkit setup is based on CARLA simulators and modified RAMN (Resistance Automotive Miniature Network ) board in a closed feedback loop. The RAMN board has been modified to support wireless communication channels and the new board is called RHBVA ( Remote Hacking Board for Vehicle Autonomy ). Communication between RAMN and Carla simulator is done via Wi-Fi/Serial port.
RAMN is a miniature CAN/CAN-FD testbed of four Electronic Control Units (ECUs) consisting solely of Printed Circuit Boards. The ECUs can be programmed to emulate the network traffic as PASTA. RAMN is powered over USB and is recognized as a standard CAN adapter (slcan or native socket CAN). CARLA is an autonomous driving simulator based on Unreal Engine 4. Users can interact with the simulator using a python API. Users can also perform simulation in various environments conditions (like weather, day/Night, Virtual traffic, Custom city block) etc.
Autonomous Vehicle Simulation and cyber security analysis gives a complete solution designed specifically to support development, testing and validation of safe automated driving technologies. Various companies and government organization are investing in autonomous industry due to its feature sector area like: Robot axis, Shuttles, Delivery Vehicles, logistics, Heavy Machinery, Mining, Farming, and they need trained candidates, who has some basics knowledge. This tool kit is designed to keep in mind for proper training and basic setup.
The whole setup is based on CARLA simulators and RAMN board in a closed loop fashion. Communication between RAMN and Carla simulator will be done via Wi-Fi/Serial.
